A show of hands if you will:

Who thinks Snape never left the Death Eaters?

Did you really hate it that much? Half-Blood Prince, I mean.

Perhaps you have links to your own reviews of the book in your journals you'd like to share. If so, leave a link to it in this comment thread. (Please).

I do believe I'm not the only one in saying:

Dear J.K. Rowling,

She just loves making us squirm with these mysterious titles.

Yet another JKR site portkey. [Jun. 23rd, 2004|06:23 pm]

And to continue with the JKR site obsession, I've found another secret portkey as well. Part of the first typed manuscript of Philosopher's Stone, thanks to her lovely bookshelf.

Click on the pen (links) on the lower right hand side of her desk. This will take you to the library. On the shelf you'll find a beaker of red liquid -- click this. That's your portkey!

I've screen capped the page for those who aren't able to view the site:

It's under the cutCollapse )

Other Secrets [Jun. 2nd, 2004|08:23 pm]

There are other secrets to be discovered I found them at other HP communities.

In the Extra Stuff room, click and drag the eraser on the ledge of the post board over the blank page next to the pen. You'll uncover a picture indicating a feather, a flask, a spider, and leaves with arrows pointing to a cauldron. The leaves are pinned to the board in the Extra Stuff room, the spider is in the *Main Splash* page (not the fansites room), the flask is in the Links page, and the feather is in the fansites page. Just click on them to pick them up. Once you're done, you get the goods.

In the Links room, there is a book with a "?" symbol on it. Click and drag it aside to reveal a key. Use the key on the locked box next to the candle.

In the Fansites room, there are two oval shaped medals with "?" symbols on them, placed next to two boxes with oval shaped indentations. Click and drag each medal into a box. There is also an empty box like that on the top shelf as well. Someone should try to put a medal into there and see what happens.

On the Main Splash page, punch "62442" into the phone that is located in the top, left hand corner of the screen. The phone is partially covered by "The Latest Rumors Tabloid" and is directly left of the desk lamp switch and the keyboard. Once you've entered the numbers, hit the big blue button on the phone. You've just entered in the number for the Ministry of Magic. Incidentally, it also spells out "magic" on the alphanumeric pad.

Secrets! [Jun. 2nd, 2004|04:13 pm]

[music |PoA Trailer]

I'm the biggest t00b in the world, I swear.

Everyone probably already knows this, but I'm going to share because it was rather exciting.

I was on Jo Rowling's website and was playing around with the stuff on her very messy desk when an idea popped into my head:
What would happen if I dialed 'MAGIC' [62442] on the little cell phone and pressed the green call button?Collapse )

It's a bit hard to read, but I thought it was fascinating enough to share. I wonder what else she might reveal on the site [maybe about future books]?

Who all has heard that our WONDERFUL (note the use of sarcasm there) president, Dubya, doesn't want the American public to see Prisoner of Azkaban because Sirius Black supposedly represents the Iraqi prisoners?

Yes, Bush, that's so likely since the book was written five years ago, one year before your sorry behind was elected.

Anyway. Your thoughts?

(this is the former veroniquesflute if anybody was wondering).

Hi, I'm sera, and I'm a Potter-holic.
So, here's my first contribution to this community. I'm answering a few questions I read here:
I'm curious about your opinions about Luna Lovegood.
What was your first impression of Luna?

Well, when first reading OotP, I didn't really think of her that much, I mean, I certainly noticed her and some of her weirder moments (hey, aren't they all weird? – whatever) but I didn't really think about her. Then I re-read it and spent more time thinking about the new characters and I have to admit that I liked Luna instantly. I really sympathise with her for what she has to go through every day. Being taunted and teased (sometimes even very rudely) is nothing one should take lightly, and I don't approve of it in any way – no matter how "crazy" the person is. So she's odd – big deal. Many people are odd, in their own ways. Personally, I find it really odd to chase after a stupid ball with 20 (!) players, only to get the remaining two to stop the ball after they finally got their hands (er, I mean feet) on it. I fail to see the point in the sport, just like people might fail to see Luna behind the crazy façade. I also find Luna funny – I laughed very hard sometimes.

What do you see for her in the next book?
I don't think that she'll be a main character. In my opinion, JKR uses Luna as someone Harry can relate to (she lost a parent – Sirius was the only thing resembling a father for Harry; she's an outcast – Harry is, in his way, too; and that's all I can think of right now…). She probably says or does something that help Harry in any way, and that's it (unfortunately).

What was your initial reaction after reading it?
I spent the whole weekend reading, and I remember my father, Sunday noon, calling for me to come down for lunch. I think I yelled back, "Not now, I've only got 30 pages left!" He was unimpressed, and forced me to eat lunch. I didn't eat much, and my eyes kept swaying over to the book, which lay a few feet away… So, to stop with all the OT-ness:
The first thing I said was: "Wow." It was neither positive or negative, the feeling, rather "Wow, I just read almost eight hundred pages basically non-stop on one weekend." Then I thought: "Wow, I actually liked Harry at times." You know, I never liked Harry – he was always too perfect, too nice, too good. No one is like that in RL. No one I know at least. So I was glad he finally showed some real emotions and feelings (I know, I know, he felt things before, he's a deep character, blah blah blah – BUT: He was never really angry. If I were in his shoes, I'd have freaked way sooner. No one ever told him anything important when he needed it, only later, when it was over anyway. You can have all the emotions you want, but without irrational anger you're not a whole person to me. NOTE: This is my personal opinion. Nothing that you say can make me change that. I understand that most people don't agree with me, and I accept that. So please accept this as my opinion and refrain from flaming me for it.).
So, my initial opinion would have been: close book, lay back, breathe out, "Wow."

What was your favourite chapter/part?
Just like most people's, my favourite chapter is Snape's Worst Memory. I love Snape (hence the seraphina_snape), and I was pining for some background info on him. I've been waiting for it since book one, really, and PoA helped a bit (it's still my favourite). And the final part of GoF left me drooling *my hero*. And the chapter confirmed my opinion that even the good guys can be prats.

Which new character(s) did you like? Dislike?
Obviously, I liked Luna (she's as crazy as I am, sometimes). But I also liked Mrs Black (well, her protrait). Bella is fascinating, too. And Zach had some snarky moments.
On the other hand, I didn't like Michael Corner, I can't really say why. And Umbridge (hmm…wonder why that is? J). And the snitch, Marietta – got what she deserved.

Which old characters do you now hate? Like?
I still can't stand Cho. Sirius – I don't exactly hate him, but I wasn't sorry that he died. I'm pretty much indifferent towards Ginny, although a lot of people here seem to hate her.
I really like Harry this time (for the first time in the series), and Gred and Forge were, as usual, hilarious. That I like Hermione needn't be said, she's one of my favourite characters – always was, and always will be.

So, that's it for now,
~ sera

My Petunia Analysis [Apr. 5th, 2004|10:15 pm]

I'm new this is my first ever anaylsis so sorry it its bad. I've never read any analysises besides these few here so if you could tell me where I could find more of these...Now here i go:

I, personally, never liked Petunia. She was nosy and always seemed up to no good to me. She treated Harry like dirt. She was made to be hated in the first 4 books. Petunia led us to believe that she wanted nothing to do with the magical community. Perhaps she was just jealous? But, obviously she knows something. She knows what Askaban is. Petunia also knows who Voldemort is. She gasps and has a look of terror when Harry mentions Voldemort has returned. Maybe Petunia actually did care about her sister. Maybe J.K. Rowling is trying to tell us something more about Lily through Petunia. Maybe these sisters had something in common or liked each other a whole lot more then was let on in the first books. Maybe there is something magical about Petunia that we don't know yet.
